How verification codes are detected
What InboxReader highlights as a code, and what it deliberately ignores.
InboxReader scans the subject and text of each message for likely one-time codes and shows the best match prominently with a copy button.
Recognised formats
- 4 to 8 digit codes such as
1244,55821or829102. - Prefixed codes such as
G-392817(the copy button copies the digits). - Codes written in two groups such as
123 456, when clearly labelled as a code. - Short upper-case codes such as
X7K9P2when they directly follow “code:”.
Context matters
Not every number is a code. A number scores higher when it is near words like code, verification, verify, security, OTP, one-time, login, sign in, authentication or confirm, and lower when it looks like an order or tracking number, price, year, date, time, phone number or address.
Detection in the message list uses the message preview. Opening a message re-checks the full body, which can find codes placed further down in long emails.
Detection happens on the fly. Codes are not stored by InboxReader.
