Troubleshooting
Microsoft authorization expired
Why a mailbox shows “Authorization expired” and how to fix it.
InboxReader keeps access using a Microsoft refresh token. Microsoft can invalidate it, after which the mailbox shows Authorization expired and readers display a warning for it.
Common causes
- You changed or reset your Microsoft account password.
- You removed InboxReader’s access in your Microsoft account settings.
- The account was inactive long enough for the authorization to lapse.
- Your organisation’s policies require you to sign in again or complete MFA.
Fix
- Go to Dashboard → Mailboxes.
- Click Reconnect on the affected mailbox.
- Sign in with the same Microsoft account and accept the permissions.
Reader links keep working for your other mailboxes while one needs attention, and resume for the reconnected mailbox right away.
“Needs attention”
This status means several recent requests to Microsoft failed for reasons other than authorization — for example an outage or a mailbox that cannot be read through Microsoft Graph. InboxReader retries automatically. If it persists, reconnect the mailbox or contact support.
IMAP mailboxes (AOL, Yahoo, iCloud and others)
For IMAP mailboxes the same status means the provider rejected the saved password: the app password was deleted, the account password changed, or IMAP access was turned off (GMX does this after a long time without use). Choose Reconnect and enter a new app password.
